A notice was given to Jabalpur man Amit Shukla after he had cancelled an order from the food aggregator Zomato because his order was provided by a "non-Hindu" rider. Amit Singh, Police Superintendent, Jabalpur, informed news agency ANI that Shukla will quickly receive the notification with a warning as well.
Action will be done against Shukla, Amit Singh said, if Shukla tweets the ideals
Amit Shukla tweeted on Wednesday about canceling his order from Zomato, saying, "Just cancelled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non-Hindus rider for my food they said they can't change the rider and can't refund on cancelation I said you can't force me to take a delivery I don't want to just cancel."
However, Zomato refused to alter the shipping executive. "Food has no religion. It's a religion," the business tweeted in reaction to the rider's request for change from the customer.
While Zomato earned a lot of internet praise for his epic reaction, several quarters slammed him for remaining firm on his stand. While followers trended # IStandWithZomato, Twitter was populated with # BoycottZomato by those against the food aggregator.
Meanwhile, Amit Shukla, asked about the incident, said to India Today: "The constitution provides religious freedom to everyone. Saavan's month is on, so I asked to modify the rider. I'm not going to order anything from Zomato now. It was my right to refuse, I paid for it. I ordered food and sent a non-Hindu rider. [ When ] I asked them to modify the rider, they declined, so I asked them to cancel the order.
Politicians including P. Chidambaram and Omar Abdullah as well as actors like Richa Chadha and Swara Bhasker applauded Zomato for their classic response.
