MINNESOTA — Which Al Franken will show up during Washington? The author and radio host who hurled playground insults at Rush Limbaugh? Or the Franken who remained serious on the campaign trail? Bet on the latter. Franken arrives in Washington next week to claim a seat that stood vacant for half a year while Minnesota judges deliberated over legal issues in the close race. He told The Associated Press he would style himself after former Sens. Hillary Clinton also Bill Bradley, Democrats who first gained fame as the first lady and as a pro basketball star. Tickets sold out fast for the July 4 reopening of the Statue of Liberty’s crown, closed since shortly after 9-11. In May, the Obama administration announced that the crown would once again welcome visitors. Thirty people an hour will be allowed into the crown. — The Associated Press
