Washington Huskies 2009 College Football Predictions - 2010 BCS Odds: Sometimes when things get so bad it's best to blow it up and start all over again. After losing every football game (0-12) and finishing last in the PAC-10 (0-9), that's exactly what the University of Washington Huskies football program is doing. In 2009, Washington has a new head coach, former USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, and with him a new system, new offense and new defense. About the only thing not new will be old players, other than a small handful of freshman who might crack the depth chart.

While the Huskies program could use a talent upgrade, they do have some nucleus to build around led by the return of junior quarterback Jake Locker. The new offense will be pro-style, similar to what is run at USC. Of course it will be designed around Lockers special talents. The offense should improve greatly under Sarkisian's direction, especially with all but three starters returning from a year ago.
When Sarkisian accepted the job at Washington, he picked USC Coach Pete Carroll’s pocket by coaxing Trojan's defensive coordinator Nick Holt to join him coaching the Huskies. Holt was given the title Assistant Head Coach to go along with Defensive Coordinator duties. At Washington, Holt will employ a 4-3 defense. The Huskies defense should be much better in 2009 as Holt welcomes 10 returning starters from the 2008 campaign.
"Washington will win some football games this year under Sarkisian," said Online Sports Handicapping resident handicapper Reno Gold. "We don't expect them to win the PAC-10 and qualifying for a bowl will be a stretch but Husky’s fans will see improvement."
The Huskies get an early test in their schedule when they open with SEC power LSU at Husky Stadium in Seattle on Sept. 5. This game will be a good measuring stick on any early affect made on the team by the new regime. The Idaho Vandals of the WAC visit Seattle for the season's second game on Sept. 12. It is against Idaho the Huskies get their first win. Unfortunately, there will not be many wins after Idaho but who knows; in college football anything can happen.
