THE Wagin Cricket Club was due to play Cuballing at their home ground on the weekend but Cuballing forfeited, giving Wagin an easy win with a bonus point.
However, the Wagin team were desperate for some form of cricket so, instead of having a week off, a 20/Twenty match was hastily arranged, with the call going out for anyone to turn up and have a game.
Twenty-three people turned up for the game and it was decided that brothers Kim and Scott Davidson would go head to head and choose teams to help them win the day.
Kim won the toss and chose players first.
Once the teams were picked the toss was held and Kim decided that his team would bowl first.
Jordan Scardetta and Kevin Foale were sent out to open the batting with Wade Longmuir the first bowler.
Longmuir bowled well and was unlucky to concede one boundary to the dangerous Foale.
Scadetta was then left to face Dwight Kellow up the other end and he signified his intentions early, smashing a half volley for six and lifting the run rate.
Fifteen runs off the first two overs was great start for Scotty’s team. Longmuir then got his man in the next over as Foale couldn’t hold out any longer and tried to hit Longmuir out of the attack and only got enough on the ball to give keeper Brenden Hall a smart catch standing up to the stumps.
Next man in Gerard Hegarty didn’t last long, as he fell for a duck to the bowling of Kellow.
The score was 2 for 26 with extras being the main scorers.
The score ticked along until Aaron Painter came into the attack and had a instant impact, bowling Brett Pearce for seven and removing Stuart Johanson for a duck, making the score a shaky 4 for 41.
Scardetta was batting comfortably though and ticking the score over until he played a rash shot off young star Nathan Cook, to be bowled for 28 of 33 balls.
Nathan Pearce also grabbed himself a wicket, bowling Brent Painter for nine.
At 6 for 71 it was not looking good, until the captain Scott Davidson strolled out.
He smashed the next 36 balls and he faced for 61 runs, lifting the run rate up and helping his team post a competitive total of 140.
