FORT WORTH — Onlookers at Naval Air Station Fort Worth were treated to a visit from the space shuttle Discovery on Sunday.
The Nasa space shuttle news, being ferried atop a modified 747 aircraft from California to Florida, stopped in Fort Worth for refueling. It originally landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California on Sept. 11 after storms prevented landing in Florida, NASA reports. The seven-member crew finished a 14-day mission to deliver supplies and materials to the international space station, NASA said. The shuttle left Fort Worth at about 4:50 p.m. for an overnight stay at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport.
Kimberly Davis of Fort Worth said about 25 people were there to watch Discovery’s local landing. "It was great to see the kids connect with the space program," she said.
