Chauhan learnt football lessons since sidelines

Ahmedabad: When it comes to being focused in the match of football, no one is more hawk-eyed than the referees also line officials, not even the players with the ball on field.Ahmedabad's Vishnu Chauhan realised this fact while executing his duty as an Assistant Referee 2 (AR-2) during the final of India's premier football tournament - the Santosh Trophy - played at Chennai on Sunday, a trophy which Goa clinched by beating Bengal via tie breaker.

Being an on-field official, I had to do more running than the players also remain more vigilant to deliver unbiased decision. But I must say it was thrilling experience," said the referee who learnt the hard difference between being a player and an official. "In the past as a player, I had to focus on my opposition but here as an assistant referee, I had to keep a check on both the teams," said the 37-year-old, who was involved in two decisions by referee Pradeep Kumar, the ringmaster on field with the whistle. Chauhan admitted, the atmosphere before the final, made him little nervous.

"I was little nervous, but then settled down quickly. Getting the final during first season as a Santosh Trophy official has put me on cloud nine." Gujarat's international referee, Dinesh Nair also hailed Chauhan's achievement. "Those who have performed consistently through out the tournament get a nod for the knockout rounds. And he has got in his first attempt which is big achievement," Nair said.
